El Diabolo Run - Day 4 - Ensenada

Things where starting to thin out by day 4. There is only so much tacos, tequila and tecate one can handle.
The almost daily ritual of packing your soiled belongings and strapping them to your sissy bar, had begun, and the run for the border was in full swing...
In the meantime, for the ones that stayed behind, it was another full day of riding, wrenching and drinking; some of the sex fiends in the group, got their last fix of the local talent...

Stay tuned for day 5 and the final installment of El Diabolo Run 2011...

El Diabolo Run - Day 4 - Ensenada: Behind the Scenes

The run from San Felipe to Ensenada was pretty uneventful. Although, the Mexican miles had done a number on some of the machines. Day 4 was pretty mellow with lots of wrenching going on. Tyler and Wes had their film crew working overtime, doing interviews and showcasing some of the bikes. Below are a few Behind the Scenes shots with Dan Collins (son of Bootsy and Joan and somehow also related to Phil) and his Knuckle and Jeff's unmolested Ironhead.
You will see more of Dan's bike in an upcoming Chop Cult feature.
...and so much for that - except to add - look out for the DVD on EDR 2011 brought to you by the good folks of Lowbrow Customs...

El Diabolo Run - Day 2 - Circulo de los Muerte

Our camp was on the sleazy side of town, right across from an open dirt lot. This was a smart move, since most of the night guys where doing burn-outs and lighting half sticks of dynamite!
That first afternoon in San Felipe, a little race was scheduled. So an hour before the race, the track was open for practice.
The term "track" is used pretty loosely here...
You see, all you have to do is find a dirt lot and tell the bastards it's a dirt track, and what you end up with is a bunch of bikers with antique equipment screwing it on...
Brilliant!

El Diabolo Run - Day 2 - San Felipe...

We rolled into San Felipe at around 9pm. Most of the gang had piled in 5 hours earlier and had a good head start on the tequila. It didn't take us long to catch up though...
The next morning, there was a tendency to hunch over and start working on the bikes. You could tell when something was bad by the number of guys around one bike. One guy, meant just minor fiddling. Two guys was a little more serious. Three or more, meant major catastrophy. Tyler, at one point, had 5 or 6 guys around him- he had snapped one of his rocker arms on his panhead...

Stay tuned for the Circulo de los Muerte...

El Diabolo Run - Day 1 - Across the Border...

Our last stop in the US was in Mexicali, just before the border. Riding in the Biltwell chase truck to this point, I didn't see much action. So I decided to jump into another truck that followed a smaller crew of riders. Well, it almost went all wrong...
Let's just say, I almost didn't make it to San Felipe!
A broken alternator, wrecked Ironhead and a busted leg, stranded our little group at a Wall Mart on the other side of the border. Things didn't look good for us and there was talk of turning around and going back for the night. Well think again, buster. This was not the time to abandon all hope...
We split the group and Kit, Bill and Juno decided to ride on.
Next stop: San Felipe! Get ready for the weirdness...

El Diabolo Run - Day 1 - Run to the Border...

Thursday moring, May 5th, 4:30am. My alarm goes off and I'm up - wide awake! Something special was about to happen...
I get in my car and head south toward some weird location in Temecula, CA. By the time I got there, the roar of motorcycles was everywhere. The good folks of Temecula had no idea what was happening and fear and confusion was setting in. But before they could get a handle on the whole situation, we where getting ready to head south, towards the border of Mexico...
This was the beginning of the El Diabolo Run 2011.

El Diabolo Run...

It's been a crazy few weeks. Big Sur and San Francisco for easter, back to LA for a few days, then Toronto and Ottawa, back to LA for a couple of days and now off to San Felipe and Encinada for the El Diabolo Run...

A few weeks back, I traded in my 74 Ironhead for a 69 Triumph, but haven't had the time to really play with it - so now, although we gave it our best shot, it looks like I'll be going to Mexico in the Biltwell chase truck.
Thanks to Sonny and Kiyo at Garage Company and Caleb from Cro Customs for trying to get my bike ready, and Davey for picking me up twice with the trailer today...
Back on Monday...

Below are the pics from easter in Big Sur and San Francisco.

Ok for now...
